Kane needs to work on transparency
On June 5, the Daily Herald reported that the legal costs of the suit between the Kane County Board and the circuit court clerk are close to the original amount requested in the circuit clek’s budget.
We, the taxpayers, will pay the bill for McConnaughay’s county attorneys at $256,945 and Seyller’s attorneys at $109,950. These costs are still not final. However, the blame for the additional cost to us falls directly into the lap of McConnaughay and her Napoleonic micromanagement of the county board.
The county board admitted last year they had trouble getting information, they were uninformed and had high levels of absence from meetings. All of this costs the taxpayers. It would be interesting to know just how much.
Honesty, transparency and trust are characteristics important in our elected officials.
I, for one, don’t feel we are getting that.
