Lake County man held in Zion bank robbery

A 26-year old Waukegan man is being held without bond on a bank robbery charge in connection with the robbery of a Zion bank on Thursday.

Mark J. Nelson, whose last known address was in Gurnee, appeared before Federal Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys Friday in Chicago where he was formally charged. Keys ordered Nelson held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago until his court date.

Zion police arrested Nelson after he led officers on a chase across Lake County and into Wisconsin following the robbery. Police said Nelson also is a suspect in a June 2 bank robbery in Waukegan.

If convicted, Nelson faces a sentence of up to 20 years in jail.
