Casinos won’t solve economic problems

When will we have enough casinos? How many casinos will our beleaguered economy support? The new Des Plaines casino has not even opened and new Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to building more. Common sense tells us there are a finite number of gamblers, and based on our unemployment levels this number is already depressed.

Casino building is yesterday’s news for solving economic troubles. How about building an economic environment where companies big and small can thrive? How about focusing on real economic growth instead of smoke-and-mirror solutions? Now is the time for real leadership.
