Long Grove home hit by lightning

A lightning strike to a Long Grove home early Thursday morning caused a small fire and about $30,000 in damages, authorities said. Firefighters were called to the 5200 block of Wakefield Lane at 12:09 a.m., where they determined lightning struck the chimney of the home and caused a small fire in the washroom fan. The fire burned itself out before firefighters arrived, but the lightning strike destroyed the top third of the chimney and debris was scattered around the yard.
