Dolphin calf dies at Shedd
A newborn dolphin at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium has died.
The aquarium, in a statement released Friday, announced the dolphin calf died Thursday afternoon. The calf was born June 3 to Tique, whose previous pregnancies ended in a stillbirth and a calf dying shortly after birth.
Aquarium president Ted Beattie said staff worked tirelessly to provide Tique and the calf with the best possible care. He called the calf’s death “a difficult loss.”
Aquarium officials say a necropsy performed by Shedd veterinarians and pathologists was inconclusive.
