Tiegs steps down at Libetyville
Libertyville has several spring coaching positions to fill by next year.
Mary Tiegs has announced her resignation as softball coach after seven seasons.
Tiegs is the athletic director and a physical education instructor at Northwood Junior High in Highland Park.
“The responsibilities at my work have increased, as we are going through major curriculum changes, forcing me to take a few classes,” Tiegs said. “I was also placed on a district steering committee, which requires many meetings which are mostly after school hours. I just can’t divide up the time and give 100 percent like I want to. I will miss it.”
Tiegs’ youngest child, Sarah, is entering junior high school.
“I need to be more a part of her life as she heads into those crazy, goofy years,” Tiegs said.
Tiegs’ Wildcats finished 12-22 this season. Libertyville is seeking her replacement.
Athletic director Briant Kelly is also seeking to replace longtime head coaches Steve Rochon (boys volleyball) and Curt Austin (boys gymnastics), both of whom have resigned as well.
Libertyville has additional openings for head girls lacrosse coach, girls lacrosse assistant coach and assistant boys volleyball coach.
