New details in Marengo-area murder
The lone survivor of a random attack near Marengo that left three people dead Tuesday night has been upgraded to good condition, authorities said Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, autopsy results were being released Thursday for the three people who were killed.
Scott Feldkamp, 54, was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin after shooting and killing Doran W. Bloom, the 27-year-old man police say stabbed Feldkamp's parents to death in their home. The younger Feldkamp was stabbed several times in the torso during the knife attack and initially listed in fair condition with a punctured lung.
He has declined to speak with the news media, said Christine Priester, a Sherman spokeswoman.
Winnebago County completed an autopsy of Audrey Feldkamp, 81, and her report shows she died of multiple stab wounds, Coroner Sue Fiduccia said. In a news conference held Wednesday, McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said Feldkamp was stabbed 14 times.
John G. “Jack” Feldkamp, 83, sustained 13 stab wounds to his chest, back and left arm, said McHenry County Deputy Coroner Curt Bradshaw.
Bloom died of 10 gunshot wounds to his chest and right leg, he said. A folding knife with a four-inch blade was found near Bloom's body.
All three bodies will undergo toxicology tests, officials said.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the 7500 block of Somerset Drive at 8:17 p.m. Tuesday, where the three stabbing victims were discovered, along with Bloom.
Scott Feldkamp shot Bloom with a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, said Lt. Jim Popovits of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department.
There is no evidence of a forced entry into the home and police are working to determine to whom the gun was registered.
Scott Feldkamp had been living in Lehigh Acres, Fla., until he moved in with his parents in February. In late May, Bloom relocated from Woodstock to move in with his parents two blocks away in the 7700 block of Somerset Drive.
Court records show Bloom had minor brushes with the law.
In 2002, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal trespass to property in Boone County and was sentenced to two years of court supervision and a fine.
Woodstock police previously arrested Bloom for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police have not dealt with a crime of this magnitude in the Marengo area since the early 2000s. Nygren confirmed Bloom had been suffering from a mental illness since he was a teenager and may have been taking prescription medication at the time of the murders. But police say they are no closer to finding a motive for what went wrong Tuesday.
“We're still actively investigating to find out what that person was doing at the house,” Popovits said.
