Tri-Cities restaurants have special ingredient
More than a few readers have raved about Fat Rosie's Taco and Tequila Bar on the west side of St. Charles, so I'm starting to think it could eventually become another local Mexican restaurant with overflow-crowd appeal.
The other enjoying such a flourishing business is Bien Trucha in Geneva.
I am told Fat Rosie's is truly a taco joint, so you'll find that to be the prominent menu item.
Never one to look the other way when Mexican food is on my plate, I have to put Fat Rosie's down as a “must visit” soon.
In the world of barbecue haunts, I noticed that Salt Creek Barbecue in Batavia, near Menards, has closed. A sign near the drive-through tells you that a disagreement over a lease caused the closing, and Salt Creek will resurface in Glendale Heights.
The building is set up for a fast-food/drive-through, so it appears another venture will have to try to make a go of it there.
Moves your feet: Libido Funk Circus put on an impressive show at Swedish Days last summer in Geneva, so it was good to see the band on the list of performers at the Pride of the Fox Riverfest this weekend in St. Charles. There are plenty of good acts Friday through Sunday, but if you like moving your feet to current pop tunes and oldies, Libido gets you in that mode. They'll be cranking out the tunes at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Main Stage on Riverside Avenue, serving as a warm-up for another good band, 7th Heaven at 8 p.m.Support science and art: We're fortunate to have a theatrical troupe like Fox Valley Repertory operating out of Pheasant Run, but it needs help from admirers for a project that actually #8220;reaches for the stars.#8221;The Collider project connects playwrights with local scientists from Argonne and Fermilab to produce stories that explore human connection with the universe. It sounds complex, but it's actually storytelling at its most basic #8212; how humans have strived to better understand the universe around them. The free stage readings of three Collider plays will be held during the upcoming summer festival.Fox Valley Repertory is looking to raise $3,000 by July 18 to help fund the project, which hopefully will vault one of these stage readings into the limelight. Those interested in donating can do so on the foxvalleyrep.org website and click on the Collider project.Pushing for better: It was kind of cool to perform ballroom dances with my wife for a few years in the State Street Dance annual summer show at the Paramount Theater in Aurora. But it does not surprise me that the Geneva studio's artistic director Linda Cunningham will thrust the summer event into another stratosphere Sunday at the Paramount by staging two full shows #8212; #8220;Copelia#8221; and #8220;Mary Poppins.#8221;It was fun to perform a fox trot, waltz or rumba on stage with other ballroom students and instructor Otto Konrad, but Cunningham's passion always leads to #8220;bigger and better.#8221; The shows were great in the past, but this looks to be going above and beyond.dheun@sbcglobal.net
