Milwaukee court official charged with tax fraud

MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee County court commissioner has been charged with two counts of income-tax fraud.

Online court records say 47-year-old Geneva E. McKinley was charged Wednesday in Dane County.

The criminal complaint says the Milwaukee woman failed to report rental income for the 2006 and 2007 tax years. Court documents say she also failed to report income she was paid for private legal work in 2006, before she became a court commissioner.

The complaint says she reported a total of $19,391 in adjusted gross income for the two years combined. It says the actual figure should have been more than $135,000.

The two felony charges carry a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

A message left at McKinley's office Wednesday was not immediately returned.
