Clemson redshirt freshman Craig suspended

CLEMSON, S.C. — Redshirt freshman receiver Joe Craig has been suspended from the Clemson football team and after a fight with a female track athlete.

Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday that Craig will not participate in summer workouts.

University police say Craig and Marlena Wesh were suspended from the track team last month after a May 22 argument at a party turned violent in a Clemson area apartment.

Police say Wesh cut Craig's arm with a small blade. Craig then hit Wesh with a towel rod, cutting her forehead. Wesh later told officers that Craig also beat her while she was on the ground.

Neither Craig nor Wesh pressed charges.

Craig graduated from Gaffney High School last year, where he played quarterback and wide receiver.
