Union at SIUC files unfair labor practice charge
CARBONDALE -- The union that represents four separate bargaining units at Southern Illinois University's Carbondale campus is accusing SIU of unfair labor practices.
The Illinois Education Association says the Faculty Association, Non-Tenure Track Faculty Association, Association of Civil Service Employees and Graduate Students United filed the labor charges Monday.
WSIU Radio says representatives contend the charges stem from the breakdown in negotiations with the university earlier this spring. They say the unilateral contracts imposed represent bad faith bargaining.
The IEA and its locals are asking the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board for a decision on the matter. The groups filed an intent to strike notice in April but maintain they have no plans to walk off the job.
There's no comment yet from university officials.
