Elgin crash injures women, 4 children
Two women and four children were injured in an Elgin crash late Monday afternoon, according to officials.
Police said 35-year-old Elgin resident Maria Vera, who was driving without a valid license, failed to yield to a left turn at the intersection of Harrison and Jay streets and struck a 2002 Hyundai Sonata.
The 33-year-old driver of the Hyundai and four children inside were all taken to St. Joseph Provena Hospital with minor injuries after the crash about 4:20 p.m.
Vera, who was driving a 1991 Nissan Maxima, refused treatment at the scene, but she requested medical attention once at the Elgin jail and was taken to Sherman Hospital with minor injuries, according to Elgin spokeswoman Sue Olafson.
Vera was cited with failing to yield and driving without a valid license, police said.
The driver of the second vehicle was cited for driving without valid insurance and driving on a suspended license, according to police.
