Durlacher services Thursday at Buffalo Grove High School

Memorial services for Lindsey Durlacher, who became one of the most decorated wrestlers in Illinois history while competing at Buffalo Grove High School, will take place Thursday at his former school, USA Wrestling announced Monday.

The 2:30 p.m. service will follow a 1 p.m. visitation in the high school auditorium, 1100 West Dundee Rd., Buffalo Grove. A funeral will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Shalom Memorial Cemetery, 700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights.

Durlacher, 36, died in his sleep at his Denver home early Saturday while recovering from surgery related to a snowmobiling injury suffered earlier this year, according to a statement from USA Wrestling.

He was a high school state champion, a two-time college all-American, a Greco-Roman bronze medalist at the 2006 World Championships and an Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Associate Hall of Fame inductee.

His family plans to organize another memorial service for Durlacher in Colorado in a few weeks, as the World Team Trials are taking place this week in Oklahoma and many in the wrestling community might not be able to attend.

Steve Fraser, one of Durlacher’s coaches for the national Greco-Roman Team, said the death left him at a loss for words.

“Lindsey Durlacher was a huge, huge part of our Greco-Roman success and our World Championship victory in 2007 and of course, we’re just devastated,” Fraser said. “He was a great kid, only 36 years old, and for us to lose him, of course we’re all very, very sad.”
