Attempted robbery at Des Plaines hotel

A masked man dressed in black, holding a gun demanded money from an employee at the Comfort Inn O'Hare in Des Plaines, but left empty-handed less than a minute later, according to police.

Commander Nick Treantafeles said the man entered the hotel at 2175 E. Touhy Ave., in Des Plaines at about 5 a.m. Thursday. The clerk opened a tray behind the desk filled with hotel keys and said “I have no money,” according to Treantafeles.

Then the man left.

No one was hurt and nothing was stolen in the attempted robbery.

Because the man was masked, Treantafeles said police could not see his face, but the investigation continues.

“We're still reviewing the video from the hotel so we'll see what happens,” Treantafeles said.
