Cougars win in 11th

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Kane County Cougars endured quite a long evening Saturday night — but their marathon effort was rewarded with a a 6-4 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Parkview Field in 11 innings.

The game lasted 3 hours, 13 minutes plus a 1 hour, 56-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning, a total of 5 hours, 9 minutes in Game 2 of the series.

Cheslor Cuthbert saved the Cougars in the top of the ninth, belting a game-tying homer off Adam Dominick (2-3), who had been 8-for-8 in saves this year.

In the 11th, the Cougars’ Ryan Stovall tripled home Jake Kuebler and Cuthbert delivered a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4.

Chase Boruff (4-1) tossed 3 scoreless innings for the win, and Mitch Hodge handled the bottom of the 11th for his first save for the Cougars, who are 16-8 in their last 24 games.

Cougars starter Leondy Perez gave up 4 runs in 3⅓ innings and left with a no-decision following the rain delay as his streak of consecutive quality starts ended at six. The Cougars’ bullpen quartet of Santiago Garrido, Jon Keck, Boruff and Hodge combined for 7⅔ scoreless innings.

The Cougars’ Orlando Calixte had an RBI and Travis Jones contributed a 2-run double.
