Mazda to stop building midsize car in US
DETROIT — Mazda Motor Co. says it will stop building the midsize Mazda 6 at its only U.S. factory.
The company says that it will build the next version of the car at a factory in Japan.
Mazda now makes the 6 at a plant it runs jointly with Ford in the Detroit suburb of Flat Rock, Michigan.
The company says that it made the decision because of changing demand in North America and currency exchange rates.
Mazda says it is committed to working with Ford on future opportunities for the plant. But the company didn't say if it would build another model in the U.S.
The Flat Rock factory also makes the Ford Mustang. It employs about 1,700 people.
