Must the teacher bashing continue?

I am wondering what the motivation was by the writer in the “Six Counties in 60 Seconds” section of the May 25 Daily Herald. “Richard M. Daley is taking the advice of the adage, ‘If you can’t do, teach.’” This is another example of teacher bashing in these days of criticism of our profession and our pensions (which we paid for over our careers, and we do not collect Social Security). In my 43 years in the teaching and coaching profession, I have witnessed brilliant people who gave up lucrative careers in other professions to teach our youth. These professionals have been and are doers and have played an important role in our society.

I am wondering if the writer of this article ever thanked the teachers who taught him or her to write? I am surprised that the Daily Herald allowed this comment to be published since the publican has usually been positive toward our profession. I would hope that the writer or editor would publish an apology.
