County forest planning is inept

I became a resident of the Fort Sheridan community in 2006. In the time I have lived there I have witnessed an increase in the number of trees that are sick or dying, proliferation of weeds and dandelions in the parade grounds to biblical proportions and workers with utterly inadequate equipment trying to keep the grass shorter than knee deep.

It’s like watching Forrest Gump cut the grass of the football field with his little Toro tractor.

These same people (Lake County Forest Protection District) overbuild a facility in Beach Park that will never be profitable while continuing to buy new land surrounding Thunderhawk.

But they cry “poor house” when asked to spend some of their $180 million bond issue to develop the best site for a golf course within 500 miles.

Instead of issuing the RFP during the worst recession in 75 years when both equipment and labor are sitting idle, they waste two years forming committees and talking about the issue.

It is pretty obvious to me that the LCFPD is just as short on business acumen as they are on business ethics. And we want these people to build a golf course?

Here’s a solution: Give the land back and let’s start over with somebody else.
