Hit-and-run driver sentenced to house arrest
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A Hoffman Estates native has been sentenced to two years of house arrest for a hit-and-run crash that left two British businessmen dead in South Florida.
A Broward County judge sentenced 36-year-old Ryan LeVin on Friday after he pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. LeVin must also never drive again and immediately pay a confidential settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit. Prosecutors had been seeking a 10-year prison sentence.
Authorities say LeVin was racing his Porsche 911 Turbo in Fort Lauderdale in February 2009 when he lost control and hit two pedestrians, 39-year-old Craig Elford and 48-year-old Kenneth Watkinson.
LeVin fled the scene, and the Porsche was later found abandoned. He had previously denied being the car's driver.
