Des Plaines bike trail complete
A three-year project to improve the Des Plaines River Trail as it runs through Des Plaines officially ended Saturday, as local leaders and fans marked the project done.Des Plaines mayor Martin J. Moylan was joined by state Sen. Dan Kotowski, state Rep. Elaine Nekritz and Cook County Commissionor Liz Gorman, among others, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday morning on the trail. A 9-mile mile ride along the path followed.The project took the path from a mix of gravel and soil that often was overgrown, muddy and impassable to a trail with a 10-foot wide path made with a 3-inch granite screening surface, according to the city#146;s website.The entire Des Plaines River Trail runs about 50 miles from near West suburban River Forest north to the Wisconsin border.
