Scouting report
Chicago Sky (0-0) at Indiana Fever (0-0)
When: WNBA regular-season opener, 6 p.m.
Where: Conseco Fieldhouse
TV: Comcast CN100
Skinny: Let the Pokey Chatman era begin. The Sky was thrilled over the off-season to hire the dynamic Chatman as its head coach and general manager. Chatman has been a big-time success both at the collegiate level (LSU) and at the professional level (in Russia). Likewise, she is very familiar with the Sky’s two best players, guard Epiphanny Prince and center Sylvia Fowles. Chatman recruited Fowles as a teenager and coached her at LSU; she coached both Fowles and Prince during stints in Russia. Prince played for Chatman last winter in Russia. Fowles and Prince know that Chatman is a big fan of defensive intensity, so expect the Sky to dial it up a few notches on that end. Of course, that means this game could be a big-time defensive struggle. Year in and year out, Indiana is one of the league’s best defensive teams, led by former Stevenson High School star Tamika Catchings, a four-time winner of the WNBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award. She has won it the last two seasons.
