What she wore isn’t the news

As followers of popular culture, readers probably do want to know that Oprah wore, “. . . a beautiful peach dress, gorgeous diamond bracelets and earrings . . .” But to carry a report by the Associated Press describing what Elizabeth Smart, a victim of kidnapping and sexual assault, wore to the sentencing of her perpetrator was so inappropriate. I had to check the date on my Daily Herald to make sure we hadn’t returned to the 1970s.
