Lake Zurich fire chief retires

Longtime fire chief Terry Mastandrea will retire effective July 15 as the fire chief/director of emergency services for the village of Lake Zurich.

Mastandrea has served the village and the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District as chief the last 21 years of a 34-year career. The announcement, released by the village Friday, was made May 27 in a letter to Mayor Suzanne Branding.

“I cannot name one single reason for this decision other than it is time,” he wrote.

Mastandrea said the department has made great improvements as it transitioned from a volunteer to full-time department.
