Driver rear-ends motorcyclist stopped for ducks in Elmhurst
A motorcycle driver who stopped to let ducklings cross a busy street was injured when another driver rear-ended him Friday morning, Elmhurst police said.
The man driving the motorcycle was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, Elmhurst police Cmdr. Dan Terry said.
He was among many motorists who stopped between 7 and 7:30 a.m. Friday as ducklings waddled across the southbound lanes of Route 83 just south of North Avenue, Terry said.
But a woman driving a four-door vehicle was unable to stop in time, hitting the man’s motorcycle and another vehicle, he said. The motorcycle also hit a third car in the collision, but the motorcycle driver was the only person injured.
The woman driving the vehicle that caused the crash was issued a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Terry said.
Traffic on Route 83 was backed up for about an hour as Elmhurst police and fire crews cleaned up the crash.
