Jones’ homer keys Cougars

EASTLAKE, Ohio — Travis Jones cracked a two-out, 2-run homer in the top of the ninth inning Thursday to lead the Kane County Cougars to a 4-3 victory over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.

Jason Adam gave up 1 earned over 6 innings, Mitch Hodge got his first win and Chas Byrne picked up the save as the Cougars (24-30) avoided a sweep.

The score was tied at 2-2 in the top of the ninth when the Cougars took control. Lane Adams was hit by a pitch by Nick Sarianides (3-3), and Jones launched a 2-run shot with two outs to make it 4-2. Byrne gave up a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth before retiring Levon Washington to notch his third save.

Adam posted his third straight quality start and the Cougars’ 20th in the last 32 games.
