Carpentersville woman found with 137 pounds of pot

Carpentersville police say they found 137 pounds of marijuana in garbage bags in a rented home and have arrested the resident on charges of running a grow house.

Carpentersville police Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart said patrol officers teamed up with the Community Response Team — Carpentersville’s gang and drug unit — to execute a search warrant just before 6 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of Elm Ridge Court.

Lisa N. Vu, 34, was arrested and later charged with the most serious class of felony for possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver or manufacture it, according to court documents. She was also charged with possession of marijuana, another felony.

Bosshart said Vu was the only one arrested so far but the investigation is ongoing.

“An operation that big is probably more than just her,” Bosshart said.

Vu was renting the Elm Ridge Court home. Bosshart said the owner tipped off police after noticing the operation while he was on the property.

When police arrived, they found multiple garbage bags of marijuana as well as soil products and packaging material, indicating a grow operation, Bosshart said — a rare find for Carpentersville police.

“It’s not unprecedented,” Bosshart said. “But it’s not common.”

Vu appeared in bond court Wednesday where bail was set at $750,000. Vu must pay 10 percent of that to be released before her next court date, scheduled for June 8 in St. Charles.
