Your news Bright Hope’s run raises $40,000 for kids
Hoffman Estates-based Bright Hope hosted its ninth annual Run For Hungry Children 5K Run/3K Walk event Saturday, May 14, at Cabela’s in Hoffman Estates.
More than 400 participants came out early that morning in the chilly, windy, misty rain to run and walk for hungry children in impoverished nations.
Runner Jim Mazik of Palatine was awarded Overall Male Winner for finishing the 5K course in 19 minutes, 14 seconds. Runner Sarah Bailey of Elgin was awarded Overall Female Winner with a finishing time of 20 minutes, 58 seconds.
Awards were also given for top finishers in multiple age divisions.
The fundraising event raised $40,000. Proceeds will benefit orphans and vulnerable children living in extreme poverty in Haiti and Kenya. It takes approximately $30 to feed and educate a child for one month, and many will be given the gift of food and education thanks to the funds raised by the participants.
“The run reminds us how we need to appreciate our own health. Our family is so blessed to have healthy food on our table daily,” said Diane Schneider, Cabela’s event coordinator.
“To think many might not have food is sad and concerning. The race puts us into action as a community to make a change. Bright Hope tackles tasks we all want to see accomplished in a kinder world, for those who are in need.”
