UC nurses voting on contract; results due Friday
Voting results are likely Friday on a proposed contract between registered nurses and the University of Chicago Medical Center.
If it's ratified in voting Wednesday and Thursday, some nurses would get pay raises of at least 15 percent over three years.
The tentative settlement also would limit a mandatory scheduling policy that nurses said made them switch between day and night shifts.
It also would give them a bigger voice in management meetings on patient care issues.
Union leaders say the proposal meets nurses' main goals.
The hospital has declined comment on the proposed terms but says the deal is fair and benefits patients, nurses and the medical center.
The proposed contract deal reached over the weekend affects 1,300 nurses.
