38 Illinois public libraries share grant money
SPRINGFIELD — More than three dozen public libraries in Illinois are receiving grants from Secretary of State Jesse White.
White announced the grants for 38 Illinois public libraries on Tuesday. The grants are for as much as $4,800. The total money distributed for the Penny Severns Summer Family Literacy grant program was nearly $170,000.
White says the money will help thousands of parents and children with limited literacy skills. The goal of the grant program is to help develop basic reading, math and writing skills during summer when educational programs are closed.
