Cougars rally to win in 11

Runs were scarce Monday afternoon through 10 innings at Elfstrom Stadium.

But the Kane County Cougars spotted the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3 runs in the top of the 11th, then rallied with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to earn a 5-4 victory before 6,898 in Geneva.

The Cougars took three out of four in the series, have won 14 of their last 19 games and are guaranteed a winning record for the month of May.

Trailing 4-1 in the 11th, the Cougars’ Ryan Jenkins led off with a single and Lane Adams reached on an infield hit with one out. Orlando Calixte delivered a 2-run double to bring the Cougars to within 4-3 and Geulin Beltre tied the game with an RBI single.

Ryan Stovall followed with a single, and with two outs, Alex Llanos was walked intentionally to load the bases. Jake Kuelber then drew a game-ending walk.

The Cougars’ Cheslor Cuthbert had an RBI single, and Leondy Perez logged his sixth straight quality start. He allowed 1 unearned run in the sixth on 1 hit with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts in a no-decision as he lowered his ERA to 2.54.
