Naperville North upsets Downers Grove North

Emily Dieckmann scattered 6 hits, struck out three and slugged a solo home run, as No. 8 seed Naperville North upset No. 1 Downers Grove North 5-2 in the Class 4A Plainfield East regional final for the Huskies’ first regional title since 1996.

Caitlyn Warren went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, Sammy Marshall doubled in a run and scored a run, Bella Masini went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored on a double steal and Tara Degl’Innocenti doubled in a run for Naperville North (18-12), which plays Benet on Wednesday.

Sarah Anderson went 2-for-3 and Katie Hunzinger doubled and scored a run for Downers Grove North (32-5).

Naperville Central 3, Lyons Twp. 1:Alyssa Wunderlich escaped a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the top of the seventh to preserve the third-seeded Redhawks#146; win in the Class 4A West Aurora regional final.Naperville Central (24-10) led 3-0 going into the seventh, before Lyons scored a run and loaded the bases. Wunderlich (15-6), who struck out 12, fanned the next two batters and got a comebacker to end it.Meghan Griffin had a two-run double in the first inning, her third straight game-winning hit, for the Redhawks, who advance to play Downers Grove South on Thursday.Benet 7, Plainfield Central 2:Nora McGuire hit a 3-run homer and Julianne Rurka also went deep for the fifth-seeded Redwings (27-10) in the Class 4A Benet regional final.Glenbard South 10, Chicago Maria 0:Jess Wilkes struck out 14 in a 2-hit shutout in the Class 3A Glenbard South regional final. Danielle Chitkowski was 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI, Jane Trzaska 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Olivia Ramirez 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI for the No. 2 seed Raiders (25-5), who move on to play St. Francis on Thursday.St. Francis 5, Queen of Peace 0:Taylor Ronchetto threw a 2-hitter, striking out six, for No. 3 seed St. Francis in the Class 3A Queen of Peace regional final. Paige Davis doubled in 2 runs in the third inning for the Spartans (26-5).Riverside-Brookfield 8, Montini 5:The Broncos banged out a season-high 16 hits, but left 8 runners in scoring position and 5 errors led to 5 unearned runs for top seed R-B in the Class 3A Montini regional final.Tracy Bonaccorsi went 3-for-3 with a homer, double and 2 RBI for Montini (15-18). Shaylee Lewis was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Tori Shipbaugh 2-for-4 with an RBI and Christina Barrett 3-for-4.
