Your efforts help beautify W. Dundee
The Village of West Dundee would like to thank the more than 50 volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to make a difference in their community through their participation in “Earth Day, Every Day” community gardening project April 30.
The work accomplished saved thousands of taxpayer dollars. Both perennials and annuals were added to the new planters on Route 72. Existing overgrown plants were dug up, some replanted and the remaining potted up to be relocated around the village to replace plant material that has been lost. Volunteers also worked on the maintenance of existing shrubs, freeing our public works department of time-consuming trimming and pruning.
This was the biggest turnout yet for our two-year-old project. Volunteers were high school students, adults and young kids from five area communities who, we hope, have come to realize that every effort made in service to your community is important.
Special thanks go to Herman Tiedeman, Kim Tibbetts, Home Depot, and Gerard Dziuba. Our downtown and Riverwalk are filling nicely with hard work and pride in our neighborhoods.
Keep watching the downtown area as the older, relocated planters are filled with annual plant donations by area families and scouting groups, organized through our “adopt-a-planter” program. Future “Earth Day, Every Day” projects are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon June 25 and Aug. 27 at village hall. Everyone is invited.
Have a great summer.
