WDSRA volunteer is one in a million

The city of Wheaton recently bestowed its good citizen award on a number of really deserving individuals for the work they have done in the community. One of those individuals has had a tremendous impact on many adults with special needs over the years. Doug Feldman has been coaching adult Special Olympics basketball and softball as a volunteer at Western DuPage Special Recreation Association since 1996.

Doug is a favorite coach of our adult athletes. He has a special way of interacting with everyone on the team. He connects with each individual and makes everyone feel valued and respected. He also brings a sense of humor with him which is a tremendous asset. The rapport he has with our athletes is phenomenal.

WDSRA depends on volunteers to help bring year-’round recreational programs to children, teens and adults with special needs, including sports, arts, music, dance, camps, trips and special events. These programs are an important part of many lives. Volunteers like Doug help make it possible for every experience to be a great one.

Doug believes it’s important to give back to the community through volunteering. We are so grateful for a volunteer like Doug. He is truly that one in a million.
