Improv Playhouse to present ‘Spelling Bee’

The Improv Playhouse Young Actors Workshop will present “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” on June 3 and 4.

The performance will be at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, 2007 Civic Center Way, Round Lake Beach.

The musical comedy, edited for young actors in fourth through ninth grades, was the winner of two 2005 Tony awards.

The story features a group of young people in the throes of adolescence, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, who learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

Twenty-two children are in the cast. Improv Playhouse veterans, director Sari Ferraro, music director Liz Meyer, and choreographer Vanessa Schroeder lead this fun, quirky, fast-paced Showstoppers musical theater production.

Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday, June 3, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4.

Tickets are available in advance through the IP office, (847) 968-4529, or at the door on first-come, first-serve-basis. Prices are $12 for adults, and $8 for students/seniors/military.
