Antioch’s Lake Avenue to close June 6

The part of Lake Avenue in Antioch where it abuts the state line will be closed for 78 days starting Monday, June 6.

The road will undergo reconstruction on the section that joins 280th Avenue in Kenosha County, Wis. Two bridges will also be replaced.

Businesses are not expected to be affected by the closure because it’s mainly a residential area.

“It will affect primarily the local residents that live in the adjacent neighborhoods, particularly in their travels to and from and through the Wisconsin state line,” said Al Giertch, assistant county engineer with the Lake County Division of Transportation.

Each day, about 6,500 cars use the road, Giertch said. That is not busy for a county highway, but it’s a decent volume of traffic, he added.

For drivers using Lake Avenue to get from Illinois to Wisconsin, the detour route is Illinois Route 173 to Tiffany Road, to Sylvan Woods Road, to Trevor Road/Rock Lake Road, to 122nd Street, to 280th Street.

Lake Avenue is expected to reopen on Monday, Aug. 22.
