Cougars win at Busch Stadium

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Leonel Santiago tossed 6 shutout innings, Geulin Beltre went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI doubles and the Kane County Cougars edged the Quad Cities River Bandits 3-2 on Thursday at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, home of the Bandits’ parent-club Cardinals.Beltre nailed a run-scoring double off Carlos Martinez (1-2) to score Ryan Stovall in the fourth inning to make it 1-0 and then doubled home Lane Adams in the sixth off Angel De Jesus to make it 2-0. Later in the sixth Angel Franco grounded into a double play to bring home Orlando Calixte for a 3-0 score. The Cougars knocked out 11 hits, and all of their position players appeared in the game. Santiago (4-4) delivered his eighth consecutive quality start, yielding 3 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in 6 innings. Matt Mitchell logged a perfect seventh, Dusty Odenbach gave up an unearned run in the eighth and Chase Boruff got touched for 1 unearned run in the ninth before wrapping up his first save. The Cougars (20-26) finished their nine-game road trip with a 7-2 mark and have won 11 of their last 15.
