Cat, ferret killed in early morning fire near Antioch
Antioch fire officials said a cat and a ferret died in a Thursday morning house fire near Antioch.
Officials said the fire broke out in the single-family residence on the 26000 block of Prospect Avenue just before 4 a.m.
Antioch firefighters saw smoke and flames when they arrived on the scene, officials said.
No humans were injured in the fire, officials said. The residents had safely left the house along with their dog, officials said.
The fire was under control within an hour, officials said. Firefighters from Lake Villa and Fox Lake were called for assistance.
Interior damage is considered extensive, but no damage estimate was available. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, officials said.
