5-year-old hurt in Elk Grove Twp. accident
Police are seeking the public’s help to track down a hit-and-run driver who struck and injured a 5-year-old Elk Grove Township boy on May 20.
The boy was playing with a 4-year-old friend on the 400 block of Hoover Road in the Oasis Mobile Home Park at around 3 p.m. when he ran into the street to retrieve a ball and was hit, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said the driver did not stop. The boy’s mother heard the bang and found her son lying on the street without a vehicle in sight.
The boy was hit on the left side and suffered a broken collar bone and cuts to his head and torso, according to the sheriff’s office.
The two children gave separate descriptions of the vehicle. One said it was a “small, green car” and the other said it was a black SUV or pickup truck, polices said.
A neighbor called 911 and the injured boy was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by the Elk Grove Township Fire Department.
Investigators are looking at surveillance video gathered from the area and re-interviewing witnesses.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cook County Sheriff’s Police detectives at (708) 865-4896.
