Lifesaver typical of firefighters

The May 21 Daily Herald included an article about Joel Arnier, I was wondering, has he earned his pension? Or is he just “street people” like those in Oak Brook would have you believe. Does anyone feel any other firefighter or police officer would not have acted the same if found in the same situation?
