Man to be sentenced in deadly tow-truck wreck

EDWARDSVILLE — A southwestern Illinois tow-truck driver convicted of causing a 2008 hit-and-run wreck that killed a man and that man's infant son is about to learn his sentence.

Mark Ikerman of rural Edwardsville is to be sentenced Wednesday in Madison County. He was found guilty in March of charges of aggravated driving under the influence and leaving an accident scene.

Authorities say 34-year-old Donald Legens of Granite City was putting gas in his sport utility vehicle in November 2008 after the SUV became disabled on a county road.

Police say Ikerman hit the SUV from behind, killing Legens and his 9-month-old son.
