Aurora cops release driver who ran over nephew
Aurora police have released Rodolfo Pichardo, whom they believe backed over and killed his 15-month-old nephew Saturday afternoon.
Pichardo, 21, of the 400 block of Hinman Street, was released Monday, the same day he turned himself in for questioning, authorities said Tuesday.
The death appears to be accidental, police said.
Authorities will interview other witnesses in their investigation of the accident, which took place in the driveway of the Hinman Street home about 4:45 p.m. Saturday and killed 15-month-old Jared Pichardo. The case then will be presented to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
Pichardo was cooperative during questioning, police said. He apparently fled the scene after hitting Jared because he was distraught and panicked.
After hitting Jared and pausing for a moment, Pichardo left the house, but apparently stayed in the Aurora area. Family members convinced him to turn himself in on Monday.
