OSHA issues 33 notices to North Chicago VA center

A veterans health care center in North Chicago has received 33 notices of unsafe working conditions from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

OSHA Chicago North area office director Diane Turek said Monday that the center “failed to properly ensure” it was in compliance. The center was named the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in October.

Safety violations included lack of guardrails, unmarked exits and electrical equipment that wasn’t inspected. Health violations related to administrative responsibilities regarding bloodborne pathogens and asbestos.

Center spokesman Jonathan Friedman teold the Chicago Tribune that the violations didn’t hurt anyone and workers immediately acted to correct them. Friedman said it’s important for the facility to be in “100 percent” compliance.
