Chicago worker charged with DUI in crash

Authorities said a Chicago streets and sanitation worker’s blood alcohol was more than twice the legal limit when a truck he was driving plowed into a crowd of eight people on the city’s near North Side last weekend.

At a hearing Monday, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Lorraine Scaduto told a judge that 61-year-old Dwight Washington’s blood-alcohol level was 0.183 and that police found a bottle of brandy in the truck. A judge set his bond at $400,000

Washington is charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence and misdemeanor drunken driving. He was ticketed for negligent driving, failure to reduce speed and transporting open alcohol in a vehicle.

Saturday’s crash left several pedestrians injured, including models posing as a wedding party when they were hit by the Ford F150.
