Movie about Pennsylvania Mighty Macs hits theaters in October

IMMACULATA, Pa. — The story of the women's college basketball dynasty known as the Mighty Macs is coming to the big screen.

"The Mighty Macs" movie stars Carla Gugino, David Boreanaz and Ellen Burstyn. Producers announced Monday that it will hit theaters Oct. 21.

The film tells the story of the scrappy team from Immaculata College that won the first national basketball title for women in 1972.

The tiny all-girls Catholic school outside Philadelphia went on to win the collegiate championship the next two years as well.

Parts of the movie were shot at nearby West Chester University in 2007. The film was originally called "Our Lady of Victory."

Immaculata is now a co-ed university serving about 4,400 undergraduate and graduate students.
