Tornado watch for northern Illinois; severe thunderstorm warning for Lake, McHenry
A tornado watch remains in effect for northeastern Illinois until midnight, according to the National Weather Service.
Doppler radar indicates the dangerous storm is capable of producing damaging straight line winds and rain-wrapped tornadoes, according to the weather service.
As temperatures reach into the mid-80s today, the storm is also expected to produce quarter-sized hail with damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, according to the weather service.
Penny-sized hail in Lombard, pea-sized hail in Villa Park and dime-sized hail in Arlington Heights had been reported as of 4 p.m.
