Ill. Democrats using full remap control

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois voters gave Democrats the power to transform the state's political landscape, and now the party is making the most of it.

Democrats have drawn new state Senate and House districts that will be used in elections for the next 10 years.

The districts are likely to make life hard for Republicans. They take GOP incumbents out of their current districts and put them in with colleagues. They split Republican votes among several districts so Democrats have a better chance of winning.

Because Democrats won the Legislature and governor's office last year, they can pass what they want. Republicans can do little but complain.

Democrats won't say much because of possible legal challenges. But they maintain the districts will be fair and will follow laws on voting rights.
