5-year-old injured in hit-and-run

A 5-year-old boy was the victim of a hit-and-run accident Friday evening in Elgin, authorities said today.

The boy was playing outside about 10 p.m. in the front yard of his home in the 200 block of Orchard Street when a vehicle jumped the curb and struck him.

He was taken to St. Joseph Provena Hospital in Elgin before being transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Officials have not released the child’s condition.

Elgin authorities are asking for help in finding the driver of the dark-colored compact vehicle. Anyone with information about the accident should call Elgin police at (847) 289-2666.
