Frederick School celebrates Caudill books

Submitted by Robert Depke

The students of Frederick School concluded this year’s Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award program with an after school celebration. The celebration was for all students who read 10 or more of this year’s Caudill books and voted for their favorite one.

Students played Caudill bingo and performed in a Caudill improv, where they acted out their favorite characters from this years Caudill books. Robert Depke, Frederick School’s teacher/librarian, announced the student’s votes for both Frederick School and the state of Illinois. This year’s landslide winner for both the state of Illinois and at Frederick School is “Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins.

The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award is an annual award given to the author of the book voted most outstanding by students in grades 4-8 in participating Illinois schools. The award is named in honor of Rebecca Caudill who lived and wrote in Urbana, Ill., for nearly 50 years. The award is given in recognition for her literary talent and the universal appeal of her books, which have touched the hearts of many children and young adults.
