Sobb doubles up with PGA Match Play title

Last year Ivanhoe Club head golf professional Jim Sobb came up a match shy of sweeping the Illinois PGA’s two match play titles. On Thursday he finished the job.

Sobb, 55, took the 60th IPGA Match Play title with a 3 and 2 win over Cantigny Golf’s Rich Dukelow at Kemper Lakes in Kildeer. The win came a week after he repeated as the IPGA Senior Match Play winner with another victory at Shoreacres.

In 2010 Sobb, a Barrington resident, won the Senior title and reached the final at Kemper Lakes before losing to eventual section player-of-the-year Travis Johns of Twin Lakes Golf Course.

Sobb, now a three-time champion of the IPGA Match Play event, reached Thursday’s title match with a 1-up win over Naperville Country Club assistant Brian Brown of Clarendon Hills in the morning semifinals. Dukelow eliminated Steve Benson of Buffalo Grove 6 and 4 in the other semifinal over the 7,191-yard course.
