Wis. man charged in death of 13-month-old daughter

BARABOO, Wis. — A Baraboo man whose toddler died of brain damage three months ago has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide.

The charge was filed Thursday against 24-year-old Dustin A. Mann. It carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison.

The 13-month-old girl was brought to an emergency room February 6. She was transferred to another hospital, where she was eventually pronounced dead.

A medical examiner concluded that the girl sustained extensive brain and neck damage consistent with shaking.

Mann told police his older daughter pulled the toddler off a one-foot-high toy horse, causing her to hit her head. He says he yelled at the older daughter, startling her and causing her to fall on the toddler's head.

Online court records didn't list an attorney for Mann on Friday.
